How to Ride Rollers ~
After initial skill is developed, riding
rollers demands essentially the same concentration as road riding.
Therefore, proper mental skills are constantly improved on rollers,
unlike the bad habits promoted by stationary trainers.
Add the tremendous benefits gained in balance, control, and bike feel
while riding rollers, and you can see why we say, "Good riders ride
rollers".
¨
It
is not that difficult to learn to ride rollers!
Most people adapt in about three 5-minute sessions.
You can too! Here's how:
-
Place
the rollers in a narrow hallway or door so, if you need to, you can steady
yourself with your arms.
-
Place
a chair, stool, or milk crate beside the rollers in order to step on or off
the rollers. At first, wear
sneakers so you can step down quickly.
-
Have
a strong friend grab your seatpost from the rear and hold you securely while
you start to pedal and find your balance. In the beginning, keep your gear
low and your cadence high.
-
Keep
your front wheel straight; try to stay relaxed. You must not make any quick
or jerky movements. Stay smooth!
-
As
you become secure, your partner should slowly and carefully release his grip
on your seatpost.
-
Be
patient. With a little practice this skill develops quickly and you will
soon see why we recommend rollers so strongly.
