"2012 news is primarily related to the Impulso and its triple hydroformed tubes," says Angelo Lecchi, Bianchi's international product manager. "Last year, we introduced the Oltre and Sempre; they've only been on the market for a few months. The plan was to develop a new aluminum frame for 2012." The Impulso's tubes are hydroformed, welded, and in some places, hydroformed again." Bianchi hydroforms the tubes for a second time at the juncture of the top tube and head tube. This process gives a smooth look that is similar to a carbon frame. "You have to look closely," continued Lecchi, "to see that it is in fact an aluminum frame and not carbon." The frame is a little heavier than carbon, 1500g (3.3 lbs) for the 55cm model, but it reaches out to many new riders with its highly efficient,, secure, and dependable ride at a very nice price point. Of equal importance to serious riders, the Impulso will be available in nine sizes from 44 to 63cm. Therefore, the Impulso will correctly fit more riders than standard off-the-rack bikes. The geometrically balanced fork on the Impulso is carbon fiber with an aluminum steerer and features Bianchi’s proprietary K-Vid Kevlar inserts to noticeably dampen vibration.
