Antonio Mondonico is one of the last of a long line of Italian master frame builders, a science and practiced skill that results in a beautiful and efficient racing machine. The acquisition of this ability does not come easily. It is the result of a lifetime of hard work, building in a part of the world in which the good bike is commonplace and only the great bikes gain recognition. And among the great bikes, none is more revered than a Mondonico.

Mondonico Spirit ~

For the traditional rider who appreciates the great ride of steel!

Handmade in Italy of Columbus Spirit, the finest cromoly steel. Custom drawn to .4mm. Spirit is an extra-fine grain Niobium* steel alloy that allows a world class frame builder to construct a frame with an excellent resistance/weight ratio combined with durability similar to titanium. The Mondonico Spirit is joined in the traditional brazed manner with investment cast lugs throughout, a cast bottom bracket shell, and fully forged vertical dropouts. A 52cm frame weighs a mere 3.5 pounds.

*NIOBIUM is a very special steel with manganese, chrome, nickel, molybdenum and niobium. In careful testing, Niobium is more effective than Vanadium and other alloys as a strengthening agent. Columbus' patented chemical composition improves resistance against precipitation and reduces the alloy grain size for a more resilient ride. After progressive drawing and forming NIOBIUM undergoes a special heat treatment that gives the steel its final characteristics. Niobium provides superior mechanical characteristics and higher resistance to environmental effects than conventional carbon steels.

Fork: frameset includes a black Torelli Aspect carbon fork with aluminum steerer tube. If you prefer, you can substitute a handmade Columbus cromoly threadless steel fork with Pavesi cast crown all painted to match or a Columbus "Minimal" full carbon fork.

Futura Leggero ~ 

A classically lugged frame of heat treated Columbus Life* cromoly tubing beautifully crafted by a genuine Italian master builder. The frame is low-temperature brazed to retain more strength and resilience in the finished product.  The tube walls are cold drawn down to only 0.45mm, as thin as nearly any tubing in the world. And the Niobium alloy guarantees that very little strength is lost in brazing. Lusciously painted in your choice of 12 Dupont Imron colors. Frame weight is 3.9 lbs.

*Columbus Life is a very special blend of cromoly steel: Spirit Niobium drawn to as thin as .45mm through the main triangle and matched to four rear stays of cold drawn Columbus Cyclex. Life has the exceptional mechanical characteristics of high breaking point, superior tenacity, and superb fatigue endurance.

One of Antonio's finest, the Monza Carbon combines the proven ride of heat treated Columbus Nemo 747 cromoly tubing with carbon seatstays for even more plushness and road contour in the ride. Especially good for longer miles over technical terrain. Frame weight is just 3.6 lbs. Includes Torelli Aspect carbon fork plus chrome rear dropouts. Color is silver with black decals, as pictured.

Weights of forks for Mondonico frames ~

1. Columbus Minimal full carbon = 355 grams

3. Columbus Threadless Cromoly-steel = 644 grams with 20cm steerer  (we can lathe-turn threads into this steerer tube, add $40)

Delivery ~

We have a large inventory of Mondonico frames waiting to be painted in your size and color selection. Allow apx 4 weeks to paint plus another week to ship from painter to us. On arrival, we internally rustproof then hand machine each Mondonico frame before it's ready to ship or add parts. Allow apx 2 additional weeks for any added chrome.
