Zipp VumaQuad Carbon Crankset ~

Lightest, stiffest, strongest!

Once again, Zipp has pushed the high performance envelope. The VumaQuad Carbon crankset sets new standards of efficiency while ruling the roost as the lightest crankset on the market. Every detail of this crankset sets new benchmarks. A revolutionary new bonding system encases 2 separate lugs in the carbon to produce arms that are 3 times stronger then previous models. The 4-arm x 110mm bolt circle fits BOTH standard 53 x 39 rings as well as compact 50 x 34 and the rings are at least 14% stiffer than any 5-arm x 130mm ring on the market!

The outboard bottom bracket bearings encircle Zipp's massive 30mm spindle, the largest and stiffest on the market. Two top-shelf options are available in the bearings: the finest Grade 10 steel balls that are 2 1/2 times rounder then the rest of the steel bearings in the industry, or Grade 2 Ceramic bearings, the absolute roundest and smoothest bearings available.

NoNut Chainring Bolts - The small chainring is actually threaded to accept the chainring bolt and eliminate standard nuts. This reduces weight and increases stiffness by allowing Zipp to use a larger diameter bolt to increase thread engagement and stiffen the interface between rings and arm.

The result is a crankset that sets a whole new standard in performance - a full 33% stiffer than the next lightest crankset on the market, while exceeding the new 20% tougher 2007 CEN crankset fatigue test standards!

Zipp 300 Carbon Crankset ~

A crank and BB set that is 100 grams lighter than the competition!

The heart of the Zipp 300 crankset is a revolutionary bonding process which allows the carbon fiber to bond to the aluminum with a strength similar to that which it bonds to itself. This process is so specialized and sensitive that it is available only in the US, and only from 3 aerospace suppliers. The process increases bond strength by more than 3 times when compared to other methods. This allows the Zipp 300 to use 200 grams less aluminum and 80 grams more carbon fiber than other designs. The result - a stronger and stiffer crank that is also more durable than any other on the market!

Includes Zipp Titanium Bottom Bracket ~

185 grams! Make of 6AL/4V titanium and a proprietary heat treating process to create a superlight spindle which rides inside two twin-row bearings. Nearly 23mm wider in diameter between the bearings, the spindle is stiffer than lightweight steel spindles and far lighter. It's coated in TiCN to increase fatigue life while stopping galvanic corrosion and eliminating the need for special anti-seize lubricants. The bearings, specially made in Germany for Zipp, are a whopping 14mm wide meaning they better distribute forces and add considerable stiffness.

Threads - Email us if you don't know which threads your frame requires. But here's a tip: Nearly all Italian made frames take Italian bottom brackets. All other frames - ie. English, French, American, Japanese, etc.- take English bottom brackets. Two notable exceptions: Bianchi frames, though Italian made, take English BBs. And Merckx frames, though Belgian, take Italian BBs.

FSA Bottom Brackets ~

Tech note: FSA Titanium bottom brackets now come with 1 steel attaching bolt and 2 alloy bolts. Use the steel bolt to firmly snug the crankarms on. Then, remove the steel bolt and replace with the alloy bolts to hold the arms. FSA Cromoly bottom brackets come with just 2 steel bolts.
